About this gallery
The arctic fox is one of Icelands iconic creatures. They are great hunters and although white foxes always spring to mind, about 2/3 of arctic foxes in Iceland have grey or brown fur, very common in winter. Temperatures in Iceland at winter time are low. Armed with thermals, many layers, crampons and cameras I visited Hornstrandir Nature Reserve to photograph them in their natural environment. These images are a selection taken in February 2023.
